Ushuru Sacco (KRA) Kisumu chapter, as part of their corporate social responsibility (CRS) policy visited TMT-K in December and joined children and staff during the children’s annual party celebrations. This is the second time a corporate organization has ushuru-saccojoined TMT-K for the children’s party and all of us were elated at the gesture shown by the Ushuru Sacco team. Based on the common principles of CSR namely sustainability, accountability and transparency, the team donated foodstuff, soft drinks and sanitary pads among others towards the support of OVC. They planted trees during the same function hosted at the TMT Farmers Training Centre-Mawego. One of the team members offered to sponsor a girl in secondary school, we indeed remain grateful to this team for bringing a smile in the faces of the orphans on this day

1. Children Seminar 2017

With schools having closed earlier than usual and children are back at home for the longest December holiday ever, it remains our commitment to ensure that our OVC remain focused on learning and responsible living. This is only achieved through programs that bring children together and support them to hold on to each other as brothers and sisters. It is also our desire that our OVC are helped to dissociate themselves from the social challenges that they experience at the village level every time. We have been able to successfully do this in collaboration with the guardians and parents who cost-share towards the children’s upkeep costs when we have such functions

2. Sports by Mr. Neil

Mr. Neil Crossley, a games instructor at The Banda School, Nairobi, vsited The Mango Tree during the school holidays to offer his talents to the children. He shared his knowledge of sport with the children especially showing the young minds how rugby is played. It was their first time to try this energetic game here in the rural.

The children enjoyed the friendship of Mr.Neil and did also other sports including football, netball, volleyvall and athletics.

The Goat Project Takes Shape

goat-from-wyiThe Mango Tree Orphan Support Trust-Kenya, in partnership with World Youth International (Australia) has embarked on a local goat-upgrading project in Rachuonyo North, South and East sub-counties.

The goat upgrading project funded by WYI is progressing quite well and phase two has taken off successfully. A total of 7 bucks were distributed to the farmers who had already constructed goat pens. Ten OVC in community service were among the beneficiaries during the second phase of the project. Each received a goat meant to help them generate income in the near future to see them go through college education.
Phase one of the project had taken off and most of the goats have kidded. This will help us in ensuring that more widows and guardians get upgraded goats for milk, meat and money. Again the passing-on principle shall be achievable as the first beneficiaries shall give a goat each to the next group of farmers for continuity.
