BEEKEEPING A COST-EFFECTIVE PROJECT THAT REQUIRES LESS CAPITAL BUT PROFIT IS BIG
This project is designed to support small household farmers to increase their income through apiculture. The project supports farmers by training them in apiary management and gives them a start-up hive to manage. Over the reporting period, TMT supported 55 new farmers with bee hives within three words of Homa-bay (Kasgunga, Kochia & Wangchieng) boosting the number of new bee hive farmers in the community.
During the same period, 18 farmers recorded significant changes in their household incomes through the sale of honey. The households harvested an average of 7 kgs of honey in the reporting period with incomes ranging from Ksh 3500 to Ksh 6500 in this season. this was significant in school fees payment for the OVCs
